Directed Light supports the arts by sponsoring singer-songwriter Nina Baumer at Johns Hopkins University’s Spring Fair
Spring Fair is “America’s largest three-day student run festival.” Taking place on Johns Hopkins University campus in the greater Baltimore area, the festival hosts a multitude of events, including live music. Twenty-one bands are performing over the course of the three days, with NINA performing on Sunday, April 28th.
“I feel very honored that Directed Light, Inc. (DLI) has agreed to sponsor me. I love that I am able to merge my music with such an innovative, productive and committed company like DLI, who prides itself on product quality. I believe that we share the same values and am very excited to have their support along my journey,” NINA said.
She added, “I have never been to Baltimore and am so excited to connect with a new audience, meet new people and get to know the bands of Baltimore. This will be my debut performance in Baltimore and I can’t wait to play some new songs!”
Neil Ball, President of Directed Light stated, “We believe she is a talented individual with drive and ambition, characteristics that we embody at Directed Light. We are delighted to support her at the Spring Fair.”
Chicago-born and Australian-raised, 22-year-old singer-songwriter NINA developed her love for music and songwriting from a young age. As she transitioned from being a classical singer into the pop/soul genre, NINA drew from artists such as Aretha Franklin, Beyoncé and Joss Stone.
Before moving to the United States, the young musician had already performed on shows such as Australia’s School Spectacular, The Netball World Cup Opening Ceremony (Fox, Foxtel), and The Voice – Australia, where judge Ricky Martin dubbed her “a natural performer and pop star.” Since moving to Boston, NINA has released a four-track EP, three independent singles, and three music videos as she fully immersed herself in the Boston music scene. Having performed at venues such as City Winery, The Red Room and The Middle East, NINA’s live set showcases her passion for music and love of her audience.
Her newest release “I Can Do Better” ignites empowerment, confidence and strength within one’s self, materializing after she realized how much courage it takes to live a life on your own. Her quirky and entertaining attitude goes hand-in-hand with her honest lyrics and melodic songwriting. Resonating with her strong commitment to self-confidence and being true to one’s self, NINA is typically autobiographical when writing about her own experiences and emotions.
